Would you say collecting disability checks is a zero-sum game?
Money is a zero-sum game, intentionally so. Governments spend immense amounts of resources to keep it zero-sum. A disability check comes from money made by a company or government, which comes from customers or tax payers.
The guy in the article talks about dividends making stock markets a positive-sum game (as opposed to cryptocurrencies), but that money comes from the companies' customers. Hopefully, they're getting something for the money they pay, but it's not being created by the stock market or the business -- it comes from someone's pocket. That's not necessarily a good thing, if for example, the company over-charges its customers.
