Hey hey! Been coding since the 90's (started with BASIC and C++ mode 13h), mostly self-taught. In the early 2000's I got into professional game development, and made probably dozens of 2D Flash games (for clients like MTV and Adult Swim). After Flash died I've been trying to learn 3D and have experimented with various engines, even to the point of creating some myself in DirectX and, most recently, Vulkan and WebGL (though these projects were never finished).
Engine development is really hard, especially for one person, so I thought my time may be better spent modding and contributing to an open source project. I spent the last few days evaluating Godot, and it looks really promising. Obviously not as fully featured as commercial options, but I like the workflow and it seems to be going in a good direction. At least for simple hello world 2D stuff, I think it is easier than other software I've tried, and I had no problem getting a spinning cube working (my litmus test for 3D engines).
Hope to spend more time with the engine and maybe make a game, and some tutorials about the process, if things go well. Also, I recently started using Ubuntu Linux and I like how well Godot works on Linux and I'd prefer to support FOSS development. So, hello, and thanks for having me.
