I don't really blame anyone, I don't think it's their fault. I'm not even sure how I came to the knowledge that I have, cause certainly my parents didn't teach me (they are horrible with money). I mean, my mom is always buying new cars. Her old car was fine, she only had it for like 2 years, it makes no sense. I got my car in 2014 and I maintain it. It's been 8 years and it looks brand new. There is nothing wrong. I've got less than 30k miles, I can easily keep it for another 8 years or beyond. It's a good car. I like it more today than the first day I got it. If I got a new car, I think I would be sad.
But I do spend money (money I have, not borrowed money). I recently built a new computer, and that cost me $4,000. It was absolutely unnecessary, my old computer was still good, but I knew it would make me happier. I am also on the computer all day, going to school, doing programming, art, work, whatever, so it's a worthwhile investment.
For example, I can compile the whole Godot engine C++ code in 2 minutes now. Before it would take more like 8 minutes. Granted, 8 minutes is still not bad, but it's a huge improvement. Similarly, light backing is several times faster. Like the lighting in Decay took 20 minutes for a full bake. I imagine it would have taken 1 hour or maybe longer on my old computer. So this is a huge difference, and I can also recoup some of the investment in time saved.
