One slight advantage with playing games is you can sometimes find interesting mechanics/ideas that you can use for your own games. The big disadvantage is it takes time away from making those games that could potentially use the mechanics :lol:
There's also the "discovery" aspect in terms of finding secrets, shortcuts, and hidden items. When you make the game, you know all of them by the time you're done.
I don't really "game" much anymore save for playing on a tablet and maybe the occasional WebGL game. I also played a bit of the FOSS game known as "Sonic Robo Blast 2.1" in recent months.
