This is so sad,
My brother is a top senior programmer ( like most people ), he always worked in teams, and banks 5000 a month minus -50% the goverments takes on taxes that's 2500.
And here we have one of the most dificult jobs in the world, that requires AI programing / acceptable Art, all done SOLO, but only pays out when the project is done. When the reality comes out in the openning, life's a pain...

Well, I think some people are making money. So far I think the most successful Godot game was Cruelty Squad.

I mean, the graphics are intentionally bad, it's kind of a meme game, but it sold pretty well. The developer himself said he made over 1 millions dollars (and that was a year ago).

But i dont know, it feels like fake news to me. Com'on (( 1 million dollars )) for that game ?!?

The video game industry for some reason is filled with Hype and markething... Are you sure that game wasnt a money laundering scheme ? Someone had 1 million dollars in drugs money and bought 1 million copies of that game to clean the money ?
The most recent case in video games Hype and Markething happened just recently...
The game is not even out yet / none has played it, and its already considered the best game of the year, best game ever made, the best game that ever existed etc.. etc... (( 200 AWARDS ))

Unless that someone was the games developer - that's not how it works.

Actually, you can look on 3rd party sites. It is estimated that the game made around $2.8M.

It seems crazy, cause I will admit the game looks kind of bad from the screenshots, but it is off-beat and people like it. There are a lot of reviews, and I have seen people talk about it online. It's real.

In terms of Cyberpunk 2077, the game was really good. I consider it the best game of all time. Granted, there were some bugs at launch, but these were mostly on console. The PC version has always been pretty decent. There was some shadiness with how the reviews were setup. The reviewers only got the PC version, and I think only a few days to do a review, when the game is 100 hours long, so there was a lot of marketing muscle behind that. You can say the company was cheating, but this is just marketing. The game was good.

But i dont know, if its a wealthy thing for people to believe in... Making something like that its like winning the lottery.
like you said a lot of "MARKETHING MUSCLE" in the back, like that game undertale, ( youtube's and websites being flooded everyDay, of how wonderfull that garbage is ).

but cyberPunk still has a lot of problems, traffic veichles disapearing when going 290km/h. And there are better games out there.

cybereality You need to be careful of those third party revenue estimating sites. I wrote and SVG renderer for Java years ago that's now on Github. I've seen some sites estimating it's value in the millions. The actual revenue I've earned off of it? $10 in nearly 20 years. (And an invitation to speak at Java One, which was a lot of fun)

I doubt it. In order to buy the game, you need a credit card, so the money would already be clean. And if they used stolen cards, $1M worth of credit card fraud would be worse than just keeping the drug money.

I have to ask if this isn't the story for all game engines. The gaming market shares the same characteristics as movies, music and theater. So many seek their fortune that only a few see success.

It may be that one can do well by building a dedicated set of fans.

Yes, it's true. How many people making music got that record deal or even made any money? Not much.

That game is sort of special because it is done by famous industry veterans. Not some random indie dev. Though I have seen small Kickstarters raise in the $50K - $100K range, even for unknown people.
