Still confused by Autotiles

Hey, all. I'm terribly lost on how to set up autotiles. I have seen someone do it, and I copied them when I used their sprite sheet, but now I want to use another sprite sheet for my own game. I did what I thought I had to do, but then littered the screen with unrelated images. Supposing this section only needs this group of tiles, does anyone have tips on how to make this work?

I think I got it... mostly. It's not great for diagonals, but it works for the most part. What did I do? I still don't exactly know. I'll say it's answered, even though it's not perfect.
