prevent backwards running?

how do i prevent my controller from running backwards?

You can use a dot product. Find the vector of the movement and the vector for backwards. I don't recall the code off hand, but I think backwards is -transform.basis.z. The dot product tells you if the vectors are the same. It will be 1.0 if they are the same vector, or -1.0 if they are opposite (and a range between -1.0 and 1.0 for angles in between). So you check if the dot product of the angle is less than 0.0 and that will be moving back.

kinda off topic but I recommend the youtube channel 3blue1brown for learning about linear algebra and vector math, heres a video on dot products:

Not only useful for programmers but for technical artists too. So even if you don't think of yourself as a programmer but more of an artist, it's probably still worth investing some time in.

its explained very clearly in that video. shows how important a good teacher is i was always good at math as a kid but it got lesser priority in artschool so my interest in it kindof faded away ;)

I like the way someone once put it to me: the human head isn't a trash bin and can't hold everything, point being even if you have learned something, unless you actively and constantly use use it you will forget at least some of it.

This' a good resource for all, even just for refreshing ones memory. ;)
