Will Godot Version 4 Support Wayland Graphic Backend On Linux Platforms(Both IDE & Running Game)?

Hi,

Current Godot version 3.x only works with X11 graphic backend on Linux platforms. Will Godot version 4 support Wayland graphic backend on Linux Platforms(both IDE & running game)? Let me know, thanks!

I'm not sure, the alphas seem to be X11. However, I had no problem running them on Ubuntu with Wayland. The OS will pipe calls through XWayland, and everything seems to work fine. Performance is similar, though does seem a little better on X11 since FreeSync is working so it looks much smoother.

Apparently you might have to be more concerned with x11 support than wayland, though afaik both should be fine: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/issues/42348

That info may be old or limited to certain configs (like laptops). In my recent Godot 4.0 projects, I've had no problems across a range of OS types, and have tested X11 and Wayland and both work fine. But I'm using AMD open-source drivers (Mesa) and I know Nvidia proprietary drivers had some issues on Linux in general (which is why I switched to AMD).

Yeah it might be old, but it is still listed as 'open', so...

Wayland support is being worked on, but I can't guarantee it will be finished in time for Godot 4.0. In the meantime, XWayland should work well enough to run the Godot editor and exported projects.
