Best practice for use of scenes?

Hello! I'm wondering about under or overutilizing scenes. What are your thoughts about scene use? When is too much too much? What rule of thimb do you use? At What level or case should one implement nodes programmatically ?

I'm sure you've already gone through the best practices in the docs.

Personally, I don't use scenes much at all, but I've been told that the best objects are small and simple, and you should use a lot of them. That makes me think that lots of simple scenes would be more maintainable.
