If you were to write a devilish dmv game about frustrating your victims.

What would be the hallmarks of the game?

After watching what my wife went thru today I think the DMV as playing a villianous devilish dmv worker would have so much potential. They are not as bad as the American Social Security workers but maybe one could get promoted to that.

Oh if your not an American DMV is a government office that issues driver's licenses and auto tags. Most of the time most Americans agree they are devils in disguise- not demons since demons are chaotic- and these people are lawfully cruel to the letter.

So ideas on how you would see this play?

Could be like a Papers Please, where you are the DMV clerk, except your job is to find any BS can you complain about and tell the customer they have to go home and get a 4th form of address identification or something.

Could you make it any worse than reality? Get in long conversations with someone while everyone is standing there waiting, then charge them 5 dollars just for the pleasure of talking to you. Have people take a number so you can call it out and everyone is aware of how excruciatingly slow they are working. They have like 5 cashiers working and still manage to wait about 10 minutes before they call another number. That's an average of 50 minutes per cashier. Have some of the cashiers take an hour long lunch break just before your number is called. They love rubbing that in your face because everyone else in the world only gets 1/2 hour. I think it would have to be a horror game because it strikes fear into the hearts of anyone that goes there.

Actually, the DMV here is Portland is pretty decent. I had an appointment and didn't wait at all (didn't even have time to sit down before they called my number). And I failed the eye exam, but the clerk told me to go home and get my contact lenses and gave me a card so I could skip the line when I came back. Somehow people are always nice to me, guess I'm just really lucky or something.

I think they have more time now that there is so much you can do online and they are a little more worried about being replaced. I'm glad they can't see you squinting when you are inside those eye checkers.

Well it was a fair failure. My glasses were like 8 years old and I could barely see. Which meant when driving, I could not read any of the signs, I just used my phone to navigate. But I got new glasses that are much better.

My wife went back and forth yesterday three times and each time they kept adding more burdens. The last time they said her original 20 year old marriage certificate was not valid becuase it had not been notorized. She was livid.

Black horror comedy.- yes I thnk that is the way to go. Start off as a imp and progress to an arch devil in charge of your own DMV. Maybe like a dungeon keeper motif

I worst thing I had to deal with years ago was getting a new passport. My drivers license was long expired, and I lost my social security card. So I couldn't get a passport without a gov't id, but I couldn't get the id without the social security card. And to get a replacement social security card, I needed to prove who I was... but without any id. It took almost like 6 months and so much back and forth. And I had to send original copies of things, like my real birth certificate, through the mail, which made me really nervous. Eventually it was sorted out, and I'll never let that happen again.

Yeah, it's like: I'm standing right here in front of you. I'm me. How could I not be me? I'm right here. And beyond that, the government knows who you are. If you commit a crime, they'll have no problem arresting you, with or without a valid id. Your file is still on the computer with everything, it's so dumb.

I'm the worst bookkeeper that ever existed. I don't know where anything is. My car title, my social security card. I keep my license in my wallet. If they ever want to see seven years of my back taxes, they'll have to search dumps or something. I'm doing really good if I manage to pay my bills. Anything beyond that is asking too much. Thankfully, no one has asked. Sometimes I manage to find my car title, but the cars are generally junk when I'm done with them and they just go to the recycle place. I'm thinking about buying a new Maverick, though. Pretty good price and it's what I need for my life style with good mileage. I want to maybe do a little more traveling and my old beaters aren't going to cut it.

I have a Honda Fit. It's prefect for me, not flashy or anything, but it has lots of room and drives smooth. But I don't enjoy driving in the city, so I don't use it much. Just to go on errands. My brother always drives on the long trips. When it's warmer, we go hiking and camping and stuff just outside the city. I also want to travel internationally more. I've been to Japan twice, but I want to go back. Probably in 2023 in the Spring I will do like a 2 week trip. I really love it there.

Portland driving is an adventure, so I understand why you wouldnt want to do it.

Here in Salt Lake city area all the mormons release their pent up suppressed urges on the roads. The only more aggressive driving I have ever seen was when I lived in Israel. They worse than Chicago, Dallas, Memphis, and Portland. I have watched road rage from people who were cruising at 100 mph in a 25 mph zone and angry at school kids!!! Seriously they lose their minds when they get on the road- but in person they are really kind.

Course Im a non mormon from Mississippi /Memphis so I just let flow off of me. Though it does boggle me.

BTW a honda fit is a nice car.

@fire7side The Ford Maverick is the same as a Chevy Avalanche which is what I drive. Though I think the Ford has a higher customer review score of 4.5 out of 5. Honestly I miss having a real tailbed though

I didn't know about the Avalanche. I guess it is a lot alike, but the Maverick looks more like a truck to me. It only has 2000 lbs towing, but that would be all right. I have a small light trailer, and I probably wouldn't even bring it on trips. One of the reasons I want it new is because those batteries are expensive and only last between 80 and 100,000 miles. The amount of driving I do, that would last 10 years, easy, even taken a trip once a year.

Yeah, cyber, a Honda fit would be a good travel car also, but I do haul a boat and a trailer once in a while. And I need pretty good ground clearance because of my driveway and places I go.

My avalanche is the most rusted out ugly truck in utah and I love it. I have a tow capacity of 7900lbs stock. The Ford Maverick with towing package is 4000lbs (about $700) this is due to the engine e milage baloney and not the structural strength of the motor. As the motor was optimized for passenger economy.

I wouldn't mind that tow capacity, but 21 mpg highway isn't very good. The Maverick does better in the city because of regen braking, but still about 32 highway and most people get close to that. Around home here, where I can drive slower on backroads, I should get 40, and even traveling I can avoid freeways. As far as towing, I can manage fine with 2000 even when I cut wood on a permit. Plus it's a lot more expensive than a Maverick. I will have to get the XLT so, I don't know maybe 24k or so. Pretty good price for what you get. My current vehicle is a Ford Escape I paid 3000 for and it's 4 years old with not much money I had to put in it. It's just the reliability factor, assuming the Maverick holds up all right. Most of it is based on the Escape so it should be all right. What I hate about new cars is you have to get collision insurance and it raises the cost quite a bit. Even if I pay it off, I would be afraid to drive it without collision.

Wasnt trying to convince you to change your mind. just showing the similarities. I too personally like smaller pickups. I wish they still made El Caminos as those were my favorite vehicles. Full coverage insurance can run as much as the truck note, maybe a used one?

Oh and one can always rent a truck if they need to tow something heavy. My quote for a F150 daily rental was about $90 a day.

I've never towed anything. But I rented a huge truck for the move from Los Angeles to Portland, and did the drive with my brother. It was pretty long, took almost 3 days, but switching off the wheel helped. I couldn't do that alone. Also, I never drove a truck before and there was a huge blind spot and no rear mirror so it felt pretty dangerous. We made it, but I'm not doing that again.

YOu might have to. To avoid the blind spots justr but a set of $10 bubble mirrors that stick to the truck mirrors and youll get rid of blind spots. I have driven more than 500000 miles in box trucks I have owned and actually I like driving them. At first they made me nervous but once I knew them liked them better than reguar cars save the gas milage.
