What are your favorite fairy tale creatures?

I want to have a diverse mythological representation- though they will be shrunk down or enlarged to gnome sized challenges.

These will be potentially trading villages, npc residents of the village, random npc's, or quests. Baba Yaga has ben suggested and most definitely will be in it. As will gnomes (obviously), goblins(probably more like redcaps and brownies), trolls (as livestock guard animals- not the Tolkien style trolls), mouse people, bird people, frog people, mole people, rat people, pixies, an owl mage, probably some type of undead. But what would you suggest and what kind of character or quest would it be?

Or if you have any ideas for these listed myths Id like to hear them. Remember this game plays out via illustrated text.

Yeah and the setting is this large isolated swamp lake in the humid south. Fantasy but roughly late 1500's human history.

What you listed is probably more than enough. I would suggest picking the best 4 or 5 creatures and making them really high quality.

Well the nice thing about text based game play- you only have one or two images per race and they get reused, And I also understand how too many dilutes the story. But at the same time I can edit, change replace based on other people's ideas as well. And some of these myths would not even get an illustration.

But at the concept stage is when ideas should be tossed about.

Hmmm would the dragons be miniature as well? Like bat sized maybe? That would make for some cool art.
