The color difference really just needs a 3 second mention and photo drop. I'd be interested in "Godot - Setting up fire particle effects and heat haze blur." (I think) Also, I assume you looked into some way of testing hardware to adjust lighting w/o asking the player to adjust a sliding brightness bar but failed to find anything useful?

Well, in my case, I have a lot of computers. I have a 34" ultrawide that I use on my Ubuntu dev machine, a 32" 4K monitor for my Windows 11 rig (which my cat killed). 2 laptops, and a projector in my living room. So I just tested on all of them, and this gave me a good spectrum. The difficult part of tweaking the colors on my dev machine, without being able to see how it would look, it was mostly guess work, and also trying not to optimize too much for one particular screen. This is why in a few updates on Ella, the colors were off, because I was guessing and guessed wrong. But I got it tweaked in the end and it was okay.

I haven't actually checked but I assume this is not viable. Even when monitors report a specific setting, how it actually looks can vary dramatically regardless. By that I mean both my TV and Monitor were at 100% brightness, my TV just uses different tech that results in a wider range between light and dark, so the dark areas look far darker.

Similar to @cybereality I edit on either a 4k Benq monitor, or a 1080p Samsung. I have calibrated both to be as similar to each other as possible, but they do look different still, so I test on both to try and reach a middle ground, but beyond this feels like wasted effort. I will say my phone (Pixel 3A) looks similar to my 4k panel from a colour/brightness point of view also so I have assumed this to be 'average'.

It's not possible. Even two of the same exact monitor can look very different unless professionally calibrated (and most people don't have to tools or knowledge to do this). Which is why AAA games simply give you sliders the first time you start the game. It's the only reliable thing to do.

Complete tangent, but if you're on Windows you can change the accent colour of menu bars to match Godot's, resulting in this pleasing experience:

Yes, you can. I did that. The only issue is that Windows defaults to the white title bar when windows are unfocused. Meaning when you play your game in the editor, then the editor title becomes white again. Not sure why they did that.

You can regedit that value manually but certainly annoying how every new release seems to obfuscate previously existing controls.

I get auto-selecting the colours that 'work', but it should give an option in the UI to override it like it used to. I feel like windows has become increasingly more like Apple in this regard.

I've actually only just noticed but it also seems to vary by window type. Console windows will never have a white top bar:

Built-in Windows apps like Explorer and Command Prompt have access to a special API that lets them force dark mode on the title bar. Userland Win32 applications don't support this; only UWP applications do.

@Erich_L your timing is eerie as I think I've just recorded the last line of audio. It'll prolly be released Thursday as I still have to record 2 more short things and tidy up callout boxes/polish and such.

I feel like this one is generally rushing through a very small subset of the overall process, but tbh making videos is a massive PITA. I mean I recorded ~100gb+ across ~130 files and a few gifs, and ~2k word script, and it amounted to about 10mins all said and done :(

I need to do some research on how others do it as just 'recording everything' is definitely not the way, and generally I end up forming the narrative of the video after the fact and having to go back and record stuff as if I hadn't done it before anyway.

To be fair, it was the same with the few cycling videos I made where I would cycle down a hill. Realise it would look cool on camera, cycle back up, put drone in the air, cycle back down again >.>

Perhaps that's just how it is. Want some modicum of quality, gonna take forever :(

Finally finished the breakdown:

It comes across pretty rushed in the end, but I'm over it. Too much footage to sift through to properly define a narrative. Probably shift the format somewhat for the next one.
