I guess I'm old fashioned. I write on paper, i read on paper whenever possible, i use a clock(wow), i use a remote control. Heavy object might be hiding something? I just assume stance and move the thing out of the way. Off topic, but it's incredible how much strength you can muster with the right footing. This is going to sound insanely stupid but I'm a really good navigator with road signs and "landmarks" because instead of attending middle school, I'd get literally lost in minecraft day in and day out. I swear, a large portion of the likely 2,000+ hours i had in the game was spent finding my way back to places and eventually, I got really good at it. Then I grew up and realised that skill works in the real world too.

In one case, the heavy object was a 750kg gun safe that's bolted to concrete. (Not mine.) The guy that put it in said that you'd have to demolish the house to remove it. If it wasn't so full, it would make an excellent tornado shelter. :)

I love to have multiple options. On the other hand, I caught my brother moving his nine boxes of antique comic books the other day, and groaning over the weight. I pointed out that I'd bought the cd-roms marvel published, of 40 years of their most-loved titles, and most of his antiques were probably on them. (He was a marvel fan, like me.) I can carry (and read) all of them on my phone. It's not the same for him. I just shrugged.

When I'm traveling, I use a Garmin. I hate trying to navigate a map and drive safely. Mine was about 50 dollars. Well worth it. I don't use it around home, of course. I guess some people use their phones for that, but I'll stick with the Garmin. Especially at night, it's almost like having xray vision or something, or a really good navigator.

My escape hybrid has a navigation system built into the radio, which still works pretty well. Of course, since the car and the navigation cd-roms are 14 years old, I have to take it with a grain of salt. The maps still look pretty, in a Battlezone kind of way. :)

It's hard to believe how old this new-fangled technology is already. I told a young cousin, last weekend, that there was a time when kids had to sit down in front of a computer instead of carrying a tablet with them. She looked at me like I'd said I did my homework on the back of a coal shovel. ;)

I don't know what I would do without my Google phone. I use it for everything. I did hold out for a while, I think I got my first Android phone in 2012, but it's like a whole new world. I can't even imagine not having it.

I had a palm pilot before the turn of the century. That brings back memories. I guess I got spoiled on them relatively early.

I seem to recall that you wrote on them with mainly normal characters, but you had to use a few shorthand strokes, because the computer had trouble with some of the letters.

I remember as a child, when my teachers would ask the class how old we'd be in the year 2000. I thought, "Ha! No way am I ever getting that old."

It's new for me. I used an Atlas till about 2 years ago. I've got an old Escape but I bought it used and I didn't see any navigation cdroms. Not hybrid, but that probably wouldn't matter. I really like the Garmin. Turn right at the next corner with a little map that shows it coming. It's hardly ever wrong. You might not know ItchyBoots on youtube, but she rides around the world on a motorcycle for a living and makes videos. I see she uses a Garmin in South America on dirt roads, or actually it's probably her smart phone now that I think about it. Do you need internet when using a smart phone for that? Satellites have really changed things. The speed they show is accurate also, and they know if you are in a speed zone. You get a little warning. Nice when you are someplace strange because it might be a speed trap. It's probably horrendous for privacy but safety on the highway is important for me. I've been in one accident that was serious enough to hurt a lot and I don't want to get in another.

My old car can't handle the highway very well, so I don't travel much. (Not that I miss it terribly.) And I gave up any hope of privacy by carrying a digital tracking device, I mean cell phone. I don't worry about it. I've been using the internet since before it really existed, and I've never used a pseudonym. Anyone who wants to know about me could find out all sorts of things. I feel sorry for them -- it's not that interesting. :)

Palm Pilots used Graffiti. I used to have a Palm V, not a bad little thing.

Later I got a Dell Axim PDA. That was pretty cool, it ran Windows Mobile and had Pocket UFO, a version of UFO: Enemy Unknown (XCOM) that was better than the PC version.

I'm currently waiting for my Dragonbox Pyra to be built. Pocket sized Linux laptop.

I had this knock-off Palm Pilot and it was a piece of junk. Still cool at the time. I also had the Dell Windows Mobile briefly, it wasn't very practical, but it felt like the future.

Looks cool! I want to hear what you actually end up doing with it. And will it work as a phone? The article suggests that, but it's hard to see.

There was a 4G and non 4G version. I ordered the non-4G.

I have the previous model, the Open Pandora. It's the size of a Nintendo DS, but I can do C++ on it using Code Blocks and GCC. It could emulate a Playstation 1, Amiga, etc (that was its main purpose: retro gaming emulation). The Pyra is more powerful, but sadly it's taken so long to manufacture that the CPU/GPU is out dated now. But as a pocket system made by just a few enthusiasts running a desktop OS, it should be pretty cool.

I don't remember doing anything except appointments in mine, but it was probably worth it just for that. At the time, our managers were into the giant, overpriced portfolio systems with special pages for everything. My palm was cheaper and lighter.

Yeah, I was in college, and thought I could use it to take notes in class. But the handwriting recognition at that time was horrible, and you had to write pretty deliberately to get it correct. Still used it for simple reminders, shopping lists, and for drawing quick doodles and stuff, but it was pretty limited.

I used to have a GPD Win 2 and here is me live coding Hello World in C++. It was painful.

Maybe I'll try quick memo on my phone for grocery lists. My normal spiral pad ran out of paper and I always bring my phone with me anyway. It will get me used to thumb type. I'll try it out this week.
