Stumped on a tutorial

So I keep getting an "Invalid Index Get 'body_spritesheet' (on base GDScript)"

Stuck around the 5:30 mark under the func _ready:()

It doesn't seem to recognize my body_spritesheet script (the script that runs inside the player script)

I'm really not sure what I've missed, as everything seems to line up text-wise. Any help and guidance is really appreciated.

What does your composite_sprites scene/script look like? My guess is that the issue is with the composite_sprites variable and the data contained within rather than the script that is calling it, based on the error from GDScript.

I'm attempting to make just one of the changeable pieces, so my script will look shorter, and I have Hat_Spritesheet in place of body_spritesheet (as I'm only changing hats rn) I didn't think it would matter if done correctly, but I suspect my error comes from my shortening of it somehow, I'm just not experienced enough in the logic to understand currently.

I see now that I had Var instead of Const in the beginning of the CompositeSprites script before the Hat_Spritesheet. The error that was displaying is gone for now it seems. It still isn't working unfortunately, but it may be too far jumbled to troubleshoot thanks to me, maybe I should restart again or something haha

No problem, really! You cannot know what you do not know. Is the sprite changing working now? If not, something you could try is adding a node with the composite sprites script to the scene as a child of the node that uses it, and then getting the node in the _ready function instead of preload. Something like this (untested, but it might work?):

Node tree: Root NodeWithScript * NodeWithCompsiteSpriteScript

Script:

extends Node2D;
onready var BodySprite = $CompsiteSprites/Body
onready var HatSprite = $CompsiteSprites/Hat

var composite_sprites_node = null

func _ready():
	# Assuming CompsiteSprites has the script...

There's a small cut in the part of the vid I was stuck at, he starts his second script with var, but a second later, as he is scrolling, you can see they are all changed to const (without mentioning it).

Now that I've noticed this, there are no longer any highlighted errors in my scripts.

However I'm further along now and the button I added doesn't seem to change anything.

I think my sprite sheet is correct, as changing the V and H frames works properly; maybe I'm not giving the correct information to find the coordinates?

I'm new to these processes so basically every part is a matter of research at this point.

I wonder if my CompositeSprites script is just not enough to work with, as he seems to have a lot more layers and value changes than I.
