Child and Parent Problem

I have been working with Godot for less than a week, I have a question for you all... I was following a tutorial (links further down) when he made one script in heritage from an other, but it did not work for me(posting pics of it in the bottom... Im not sure if it was a problem with my setup, or I messed something up with my coding... It only allowed me to do it if I checked in Build in Script (which he did not check)... i feel like that could be a problem that keeps coming back, So I would love to know what the issue is now so that I can combat it in the future! In the second script, it shows that it's extending from World, but it looks like add_state is defined in the first script whose class name is StateMachine.

Alright, I thought I could use the Nodes that use the script to in he-rite from the scrip, but I have to do it more directly... Thank you very much! That was the mistake indeed!

No, but the State Machine Script was in the World Node

Ok, but World isn't a node; it's a resource. Are you sure you didn't mean WorldEnvironment.

I might be misunderstanding you here, but I made a Node and called it World... you can see it on the left side

You can't extend via node name. You can use the class name for built-in types (like Node). For your own types you would use the GDScript script class file.
